QUALITY ASSURANCE / QUALITY CONTROL

Our internal quality control program meets or exceeds all standards set by the federal government. To ensure that Abbott is fulfilling all the necessary requirements to perform substance abuse testing, we are inspected at least twice a year by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and once a year by the College of American Pathologists' Forensic Drug Testing Accreditation (CAP-FUDT).

In addition to the inspections, we participate in proficiency testing programs conducted by SAMHSA, CAP-FDT, New York, Florida and Pennsylvania.

To further ensure that specimens are properly handled and tested, we maintain a Quality Control and Assurance program that encompasses all steps in the testing process, including:

  • Specimen accessioning and handling
  • Chain of custody
  • Maintenance of equipment
  • Personnel performance
  • Specimen analysis
  • Laboratory procedures
  • Reporting of results
